Antica Torre sul Fiume
The house is situated in Quarto d’Altino, province of Venice, just a few minutes drive from the motorway exit. Its position means that both Venice and other towns and cities in Veneto, such as Padua, Vicenza and Verona, as well as tourist resorts such as Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomites, Jesolo Lido and Caorle along the Adriatic coast, are only a short distance away.
The ancient tower of Everardo is all that remains of a Medieval castle built in 860 a.d. by Everardo from Friuli, which later became the customs house of Venice.
Set on the banks of two rivers, the Sile and the Musestre, and flanked by weeping willows, the atmosphere of the house is both quiet and peaceful. Guests can relax and sip their morning coffee whilst enjoying the view of the charming park surrounding it. Sports enthusiasts, on the other hand, can go canoeing on the river and ride along the cycles lanes in Sile park.

History

Studenti Once upon a time there was a castle, of which only a small tower now remains...
In the 9th century the French succeeded the Lombards. Everardo, marquis of Friuli, who had defended Italy from the Illyrians and Turks, had the castle built in about 860.
Everardo had married the daughter of the emperor, and Berengario, the first king of Italy, was born from this union. An ancient codex tells that Everardo ”held court in Musestre” here, where the River Musestre flows into the River Sile.

The tower was built on the foundations of a Roman building, of which the arch is still visible, near an ancient bridge on the River Sile. Strada Claudia Augusta, the road which linked the Roman town of Altino to Germany, passed over it. The plan of the road, which runs close to the tower, stretched across the entire length of the small area situated between the two rivers.
A paleochristian sarcophagus was found beside the Sile. The balcony on the tower which juts out over the Sile is held up by two stone supports from a Roman mansion or palazzo in Altino. At a later stage, the tower became the customs house for the Republic of Venice. The story goes that Venetian gentlemen used to send their laundry to be washed in the waters of the Musestre, which were famous for their limpidity.
